Everything has a season
Over the last few years, I have anchored myself on a phrase: “everything has a season”. I grew up hearing that all the time but never really understood it until later in life. I started this website a few years ago as the thedataplaybook.com. I was in a moment in my life where I felt it was THE thing to do. I started the blog and the podcast and I was all in. I then started a new job (my fav so far) and then COVID hit, and really over time this website became less of a priority.
That’s ok….
In a generation of hustle and grind, non-stop working, and all the things to do to get ahead, I got burned out. I needed to take a moment to understand what I wanted to do and if I wanted to continue having this website. It all came to realization this week. Why did I hide behind a tag line/brand name instead of presenting me, just as I am? Why did I hold myself to unrealistic expectations that ultimately drove me to analysis paralysis and stopping all together?
So, I decided today to just do the next right thing, as Anna said in Frozen ( I have a pre-teen - it was top of mind). I decided to rename the website to just www.lorena-vazquez.com. At the end of the day, it is just ME sharing with you all what I have learned; failures and successes.
This time, we’re going to do things a bit differently because time is a limited resource. I will be sharing when I can the new classes I’m teaching, random thoughts on data, and I’ll be updating the site and admin work on the podcast. For now, I have no new planned episodes, just keeping the podcast for the benefit of others that can learn something from it. If you haven’t checked it out, you can find all the episodes here or search for “The Data Coach Podcast” on your preferred platform.
Last thing I’ll share. Outside of the best job I’ve had (wonder.com) , I’m teaching data courses at a really awesome company called Uplimit . It has been such a fun time getting learners to grasp new skills and apply it to their day to day. I’ll be teaching my favorite subject (SQL) in February.
Until next time, remember to take a moment, reflect and be grateful for the season you are in.
